- Gold output rises 26 percent

THE country's gold production rose 26 percent year on year in January to 19.856 metric tons, the China Gold Association said on its Web site yesterday.
In the meantime, total turnover of gold traded on the Shanghai Gold Exchange rose 73 percent year on year to 129,915.5 kilograms. China's gold production reached a record high of 240.078 tons in 2006, rising 7.15 percent from a year ago. The country plans to raise gold production by 8.3 percent this year to 260 tons.
