  • Training program on professional human resource introduced
    Date: 31-May-2007 Sources: (Xinhua Online)

China introduced in the preparation course for Global Professional Human Resource (GPHR) here Tuesday, in an effort to resolve the current shortage of high-level human resource management personnel.

The course, together with Human Resource Generalist training program, was sponsored by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), a non-profit organization based in the United States.

    J. Robert Carr, chief professional development officer, said successful companies in the world all have well-ordered human resource departments, which are in charge of recruiting, managing, developing and evaluating the most precious human resource of the company, so as to help maintain the company's sustainable competitiveness.

In recent years, human resource departments even became the key to the company's development strategy, he said.

As Carr observed, human resource management staff in China faced challenges such as lack of specialized labor, rising loss of senior staff, and lack of cross-culture management personnel.

According to him, the two courses introduced to China are adapted to the country's circumstances and based on commercial cases of China as well as the world.

The courses will be promoted first in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen and open to all interested in human resource management. However, those who want to obtain certificate should have two years of working experience in the field and pass the authorized exam.

Brian Glade, vice-president of International Program of SHRM, first came to China seven years ago. 'The rapid progress in China's human resource field left me deep impression,' he said.

He hoped that the SHRM could help Chinese human resource management staff improve their professional skills, and strengthen the companies' competitiveness. He also advised the Chinese educational institutes to introduce in more standardized and internationalized courses.

The SHRM was founded in 1948 as the largest non-profit organization specialized in human resource research. It so far has210,000 individual members in 119 countries. The exam on GPHR was initiated in 2004 and held twice a year.

So far, around 750 people globally have gained the GPHR certificate, and in China the figure is estimated no more than 10.
