  • Late night rush on gas
    Date: 7-Nov-2007 Sources: (Shenzhen Daily)

MANY car owners in Shenzhen rushed to fill their cars Wednesday night before a almost 10-percent price hike on oil products starting from midnight Thursday.

A man who had his car filled with No. 97 gas at a Sinopec filling station on Binhe Road at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night said he read the news that oil prices would be raised midnight Thursday on the Internet and immediately drove to fill up his car. 'It saved me money,'he said without giving his name.

He said he had also sent text messages to his friends reminding them of the price hikes.

An employee at the Lizi Gas Station on Xiangmei Road said more people than usual filled their cars Wednesday night, the Daily Sunshine reported. A taxi driver surnamed Xu said he was lucky to have filled up his car before the price rises.

'I would have had to pay 26 yuan (US$3.47) more if I came five minutes later,'said Xu. After the rise, he would have to spend 700 yuan a month more on fuel, he said. (Li Jing)
