THE country's power consumption growth is expected to fall to 12.5 percent in 2008 from 15.8 percent seen in 2007, a government official said Thursday.

'The country will have about 710,000 megawatts of full-gauge power capacity by the end of this year,'Xue Jing, director of the statistical information department of the China Electricity Council, said. In addition, government controls have helped decrease power consumption, especially in industrial and heavy industries. China's power supply is expected to hit 850,000 megawatts by 2010, with hydropower making up a major portion at 190,000 megawatts, Xue said.
