- Govt. to delay fuel tax on surging oil price
Date: 13-Nov-2007 Sources: (Shenzhen Daily)
THE government will delay introducing a fuel tax until oil prices fall from their current record levels, the South China Morning Post said yesterday.
The government planned the tax only when international oil prices are lower, the report said, quoting Chen Qingtai, a research fellow at the State Council's development research center. Domestic media had reported the tax would be imposed in March, the Hong Kong-based newspaper said. The Ministry of Finance was considering a series of tax policies encouraging manufacturers to produce more fuel-efficient and environment-friendly cars, the report said, quoting Shi Yaobin, director of the ministry's tax policy department.
