- Cement sector to see drastic consolidation

THE nation's fragmented cement industry will likely undergo a dramatic consolidation in the next few years to create a number of giant producers, a domestic newspaper said Thursday.
The consolidation, driven by the government's policy to cut energy consumption, pollution and eliminate obsolete facilities, may slash the number of cement producers to about 1,000 by 2010 from 5,000 currently, the China Securities Journal said.
