A SENIOR economic planning official Saturday said adjusting the price of gasoline and electricity is a gradual process, signaling that the government isn't likely to raise energy prices soon to help refiners and generators cope with rising crude-oil costs.
When asked if the government wouldn't hike gasoline and electricity prices this year, National Development and Reform Commission Chairman Ma Kai said: 'It (price adjustments) is a gradual process.'
Fuel guarantee
THE government is considering a request from private oil firms for a guaranteed supply of between 10 million and 20 million tons of fuel annually to alleviate shortages.
As much as 80 percent of private fuel storage facilities are now empty, Zhao Youshan, head of the Petroleum Distribution Committee of the General Chamber of Commerce, said yesterday. The National Development and Reform Commission is studying the proposal, which would ensure that between 5 percent and 10 percent of the nation's total fuel supply went to private companies, Zhao said. China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. and PetroChina Co., the country's two largest oil refiners, have stopped supplying fuel to most private gas stations because of tight production, Zhao said.
Xiamen Airlines
BOEING Co., the world's second-largest commercial airplane maker, won a contract with Xiamen Airlines for 25 new 737-800s valued at US$1.9 billion.
The Xiamen, China-based carrier, which flies an all-Boeing fleet, ordered 10 of the next-generation 737s two years ago, Chicago-based Boeing said Friday in a statement.
