SHENZHEN and Hong Kong recently held a joint seminar in India to promote trade between the two cities and India, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily said yesterday.
Shenzhen Mayor Xu Zongheng and Hong Kong Trade Development Council Executive Director Fred Lam addressed more than 450 Indian entrepreneurs at the seminar in India's capital New Delhi on Sept. 10, the paper said.
'India has a developed high-tech industry and is a leading player in the global software outsourcing market. Shenzhen is one of the Chinese regions with the most advanced high-tech industry. Therefore, both sides have great cooperation potentials in the fields of information technology and telecommunications,'Xu told Indian businesspeople.
He invited Indian businesspeople to invest in Shenzhen and Hong Kong, promising them 'best services and investment environment.'
Lam said Hong Kong and Shenzhen have a combined population exceeding that of Australia and a combined GDP topping that of Denmark, making the region comprising the two cities even more attractive to investors.
The joint overseas promotion was the 12th of its kind between the two cities. Xu and Lam agreed after the seminar that the two cities will step up efforts to promote Shenzhen and Hong Kong as a combined 'industrial park,'against the backdrop of a proposal to build the Shenzhen-Hong Kong metropolis.
Xu led a Shenzhen delegation to a 12-day visit of Australia, Egypt and India. In Egypt, Shenzhen and Egyptian companies signed deals worth about US$200 million in high-tech cooperation. Shenzhen also signed cooperation agreements with Incheon, a seaside South Korean city, and Luxor, an ancient city in Egypt.
The Shenzhen delegation returned to Shenzhen on Tuesday.
