- Popular course to reopen at Fudan University

Fudan University will reopen the city's only course on how to write a thesis, after hundreds of students wrote letters begging that the course be reinstated when it was canceled last year.
'Students' strong enthusiasm drove me to reopen (the course) this year, and I'm thinking about some changes to make the course a bigger help to them,' said Ma Lan, the course initiator, who had to cancel it due to heavy work commitments.
Run by Fudan's graduate school, the weekly course will have renowned researchers and scholars to teach graduate students how to pick a proper thesis topic and how to analyze statistics using case studies.
Editors from popular scientific journals will also be invited to tell students how theses are evaluated for publication.
Fudan officials said the course, first launched in 2001, turned out to be extremely popular with graduate students. The 150-seat course was so packed that many students failed to get a place each semester.
Students from other local universities also attend the lectures, Fudan officials said.
'That's because these skills are of great importance for graduate-level students,' said Ma, a pharmacology professor at Fudan's medical school.
Graduate students in China are required to have at least one thesis published in a renowned academic journal before they can earn a master's degree.
