- Utility rates cut in Chinese schools and universities
Date: 27-Sep-2007 Sources: (People's Daily)
Utility rates in China's schools and universities are to be brought in line with the electricity, gas and water prices charged to residents.
Until now, education institutions have been classified as commercial enterprises, resulting in higher utility costs.
The policy, to be implemented from October, will save 3.5 billion yuan (465.4 million U.S. dollars) annually for all public and private schools approved by the government, said the National Reform and Development Commission (NRDC).
Rates will remain unchanged if they are already below the residential prices, the NDRC said.
