- First SZ-East Europe TEU train
Date: 31-May-2007 Sources: (Shenzhen Daily)
A FREIGHT train carrying containers departed Tuesday from the city's north station for the Czech Republic via Eren Hot City in northern Inner Mongolia, the first of Shenzhen's East Europe-bound TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) trains. It is seen as a milestone in the city's sea-rail combined transportation history. The shipment of 52 TEUs was jointly launched by Maersk and China Railway Container Transport Co. Ltd., with Foxconn the owner of the exported goods.
It will take 29 days for the train to cover the 12,134 kilometers through Mongolia, Russia, Belarus, Poland to reach the Czech Republic, half the time it takes for the goods to be shipped by sea.
