- April retail sales rose 15.5%

CHINA'S retail sales in April rose 15.5 percent year on year, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said yesterday.
Retail sales, the main measure of consumer spending, hit 667.3 billion yuan (US$87 billion) during the month, the NBS said in a statement on its Web site. The April figure was down 0.2 percent from 668.6 billion yuan in March. For the first four months of the year, retail sales expanded by 15.1 percent from a year earlier. China's economic planning agency has said it expects retail sales growth of 12 percent for all of 2007.
