    Date: 17-May-2007 Sources: (Xinhua Online)

Chinese and Russian officials pledged in Moscow on Tuesday to enhance cooperation in transport-related infrastructure construction and cargo transportation between the two neighbors.

During the sub-committee conference under the Chinese-Russian Prime Ministers' regular meeting commission, officials agreed to step up building of a cross-border road, including a bridge over the border river Heilongjiang.

They also agreed to discuss the possibility of China-Russia transportation via Kazakhstan in another ministerial meeting slated to be held in Shanghai later this year.

China-Russia cargo transportation by rail hit 34.20 million tons in 2006, up 13 percent year on year. Passengers by road and waterways recorded 2.3 million person-time and 863,000 person-time respectively while cargo transportation reached 1.5 million tons and 1.21 million tons, respectively, according to figures issued at the conference.

Russia and China are striving to increase their trade volume and boost cooperation in various fields in a bid to strengthen bilateral ties.
