STOCKS listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange won't be included in the calculation of the bourse's indexes until their 11th trading day, the stock exchange said.

Previously, new stocks were included in index calculations from their first day of trade. The change, which applies to the Shanghai Composite Index and Shanghai's A-share and B-share indexes, is effective immediately, the stock exchange said Saturday. The stock exchange didn't give a reason for the change. However, given the domestic bourses are likely to see more large scale offerings as the government encourages major State-owned firms to list, the change may be an attempt to quarantine the indexes from the volatility of new stocks finding their price level.
