- Chinese shares open slightly lower on May 16

Chinese shares started slightly lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index opening at 3890.81 points, down 8.37 points, or 0.21 percent.
The index, which tracks both yuan-denominated A shares and hard-currency B shares traded on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, was led down by bank shares on Tuesday despite the strong debut of the Bank of Communications on the A-share market.
Closed at 3899.18 points, the index saw a drop of 3.64 percent on the previous trading day, the biggest drop since April 19.
