- Chinese shares close higher on May 17

Chinese shares Thursday regained ground that was lost two days earlier, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index closing up at 4,048.29 points, 62.25 points, or 1.56 percent, higher than the previous close.
The index, which tracks both yuan-denominated A shares and hard-currency B shares traded on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, closed at 3,986.04 points on Wednesday.
