- Haier gets India nod to market phones

DOMESTIC electronics maker Haier International has received approval from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board of India to sell mobile phones and fixed wireless phones directly to consumers in India, The Economic Times reported yesterday, without citing any source.
Haier has wholesale operations in India through its joint venture, Haier Telecom (India) Ltd., with Nescomet Technologies. The joint venture sells phones to mobile phone service providers. Fixed wireless phones are portable but have a very limited range.
