- Huawei wins US$700m GSM contract

SHENZHEN-BASED Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., China's leading communications network equipment maker, says it has won a GSM expansion contract with China Mobile valued at US$700 million.
Huawei said in a statement that the contract accounted for 23.6 percent of the money allotted for China Mobile's GSM group purchase project. The unlisted equipment maker said it would expand China Mobile's GSM coverage in 30 provinces in China, including Guangdong, Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangsu and Shandong. Huawei said Thursday its 2006 contract sales for the Asia Pacific region surged more than 55 percent to US$2 billion, and it expected contract sales in the region to reach US$2.4 billion in 2007.
