- Telecom industry revenue up 9.6 percent

THE country's telecommunications industry revenue in the first five months of this year rose 9.6 percent from a year earlier to 288.68 billion yuan (US$30.09 billion), the Ministry of Information Industry said yesterday.
The latest figure follows January-April's revenue growth rate of 8.9 percent, which was in turn faster than the 8.4 percent rise in the first quarter and the 7.7 percent rise in the first two months of this year. The number of mobile phone users in China, the world's largest market, totaled 494.6 million at the end of May, up from 487.43 million at the end of April, ministry data showed. The number of fixed-line users totaled 372.21 million at the end of May, up slightly from 371.99 million at the end of April.
