THE overseas fixed-line telecommunication services that were cut by an earthquake last month have been fully restored for mainland users, China Telecom and China Netcom said yesterday afternoon.
However, APCN2, the undersea cables connecting Hong Kong and Taiwan, which affect several cities along the Asian Pacific region, and SMW3, between Asia and Europe, will not be operational for another two weeks, Sina.com reported yesterday.
The undersea cables were damaged during the Dec. 26 earthquake off Taiwan, stunting all international communications for users in China and overseas Internet access, especially between China and the United States.
FNAL's Hong Kong-Korea section was fixed last Friday, re-connecting China and the United States, said China Telecom, a major participant in the repair work.
The company has provided its Hong Kong and Southeast Asia counterparts with alternative connections via above-ground cables between Shanghai's Chongming County and Hong Kong, and between Hong Kong, Shantou and Shenzhen during the cut-off.
'We received high praise and many of them have signed long-term contracts with us to rent the above-ground cables,'an official with China Telecom told Sina.
Also yesterday, China Netcom, another company involved in the repair, said its international services had resumed after the monthlong repairs were successful Sunday.
FNAL/RNAL, EAC and APCN2 lines are among the first batch of undersea cables back to normal operation, the company told Sina yesterday.
Repairs to other cables like FEA, SMW3, C2C will be finished at the beginning of next month, it said.
