- China Unicom to halt paging business

CHINA Unicom, the parent of the country's second-largest mobile telecom operator, has applied to halt operations of its paging business, the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) said.
China Unicom's paging business has made a loss of around 100 million yuan (US$12.82 million) annually in recent years, according to local media reports yesterday. The MII will approve the application to halt the service in 30 provinces if no customers object to the plan by March 22, it said in an announcement dated March 2 on its Web site.
