- Phone patent lawsuit dismissed
Date: 15-May-2007 Sources: (Shenzhen Daily)
SHENZHEN-BASED Yulong Computer Telecommunications Scientific Co. has confirmed that the mobile phone patent infringement case it was involved in had been dismissed by Beijing First Intermediate People's Court, a Shenzhen Special Zone Daily report said Friday.
Yulong is China's biggest manufacturer of GSM/CDMA mobile phones, which combine both CDMA and GSM technologies and allow the users to roam seamlessly between CDMA to GSM. Taiwan- invested Quanqiuzaixian (Beijing) Technology sued Yulong at the end of last year, claiming that several of the latter's mobile phone models, including CoolPAD728, had infringed its patent.
The court dismissed the patent lawsuit earlier this month, said a Yulong official. Yulong is also applying for the cancellation of Quanqiuzaixian's patent.
Experts suggest that domestic mobile phone manufacturers should establish a 'GSM/CDMA technology alliance?to fight intellectual property disputes.
In another development, China Unicom has confirmed that it will be buying CoolPAD728 phones from Yulong in bulk.
