VAT on imported media products reduced
CHINA cut the value-added tax (VAT) on imported audio and video tapes, records, CDs and DVDs to 13 percent from 17 percent Sept. 15, the Ministry of Finance said in a statement.
Zhengzhou to stage intl. luxury expo
ZHENGZHOU, a city in Central China's Henan Province, is to hold its first International Luxury Expo from Nov. 8 to 11, an event that is usually held in the country's economically developed coastal cities.
The expo, sponsored by the World Luxury Association and a few local companies, will display luxury products ranging from private jets, yachts to jewelry, cigars and cars, targeting China's burgeoning middle class.
LCD TV production rises 77%
CHINA produced 9.4 million liquid crystal display (LCD) TV sets in the first eight months of this year, up 77.1 percent from a year ago, according to the Ministry of Information Industry.
In the January-August period, one out of five color TV sets made in the country was an LCD set, while the model accounted for only 10.8 percent of the total output in the same period of last year.
Railway passenger flow up 7.3%
THE country's railway passenger flow reached 1.033 billion persons in the first nine months of this year, up 7.3 percent from the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Railways on Saturday.
The ministry said in a report that freight transport volume through railways went up 9.5 percent to 2.318 billion tons during the period, with a daily loading of 138,516 cars, up 8.1 percent year on year.
